1911 Census of Scotland, Population, Ages and Conjugal Condition, Occupations, Birthplaces, Housing, Gaelic-speaking, Table 3 : " Scotland---Increase of Population at each Census since 1801".

The figures in the spaces show the differences between the population enumerated in the Censuses named in the first column, i.e., on the left, and those named in the top row, i.e., above. Thus the figure, 288,801, in the second row of the second column, indicates that the population enumerated in 1911 is by that amount greater than the population enumerated in 1901, and the figure, 665,629, in the fourth row of the fifth column, indicates that the population enumerated in 1891 was by that amount greater than the population enumerated in 1871.
