Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Redhall Tower

Redhall Tower, a quondam baronial fortalice in Kirkpatrick-Fleming parish, Dumfriesshire, on the left bank of Kirtle Water, 3½ miles ESE of Ecclefechan. A seat of the family of Fleming, it sustained a close three days' siege by an English force towards the end of Baliol's reign, and was eventually set on fire, when the thirty men who formed its garrison chose rather to perish in the flames than to surrender. It was entirely demolished about the beginning of last century.
