Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Clwyd

Clwyd, river, Denbighshire; rises on Craig Bronbanog, 7½ miles SW. of Ruthin, and flows S., E., and N. to Ruthin, then NW. to Irish Sea at Rhyl; 30 miles long. The river runs through the Vale of Clwyd, which extends from 4 miles S. of Ruthin NW. to coast of Flintshire; 24 m. long and from 2 to 7 broad. It is bounded on both sides by hills of moderate height, and presents a scene of rich cultivation and quiet beauty.
