Snowdon (Hill of Snow), mountain, in co. and 9 miles SE. of Carnarvon, alt. 3571 ft.; is known to the Welsh as Eryri (Eagle Top), is the highest mountain in England or Wales, has 5 distinct peaks (Y Wyddfa, Yr Aran, Lliwedd, Crib-y-ddysgyl, and Crib-goch), and gives name to Snowdonia, a mountainous region extending across the county of Carnarvon from the coast near Nevin to Penmaenmawr near Conway. The ascent of Snowdon may be made from Beddgelert, Snowdon Ranger sta., Capel Curig, or Llanberis.
