Aughrim.-- par. and vil., E. co. Galway, 5 miles SW. of Ballinasloe ry. sta.-- par., 7251 ac., pop. 767; vil., pop. 279; P.O., T.O. Near the village was fought, on 12th July 1691, the last battle between the forces of James II. and those of William III., in which action the Irish general, St Ruth, was slain.
