The manor belonged anciently to the Pynes; and, with Pynes House, belongs now to Sir S. H. Northcote, Bart. Manganese was for some time worked, but is now exhausted. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter. Value, £482.* Patron, Sir S. H. Northcote, Bart. The church is ancient but good. There are a national school, and charities £7.
