Chapelhope, a burn and a farm in the NW of Ettrick parish, Selkirkshire. The burn rises close to the Peeblesshire border in the two head-streams of North and South Grain, which nearly encompass Middle Hill (1740 feet); and, from their confluence, runs 1¼ mile E by N to the head of the Loch of the Lowes. The farm, 20 miles WS W of Selkirk, lies to the N of the burn, and contains, 3 furlongs from the loch, moss-covered foundations of an ancient chapel, with vestiges of rows of graves. Chapelhope is the chief scene of Hogg's tale of ' The Brownie of Bodesbeck;' and it gave shelter to large numbers of the persecuted Covenanters.
