In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Lochloy like this:
Lochloy, seat, in co. and 3½ miles NE. of Nairn.
The location is close to the modern house of Lochloy, and reflects the description given by the RCAHMS Canmore system for the village and burgh of Lochloy.
