Here we are presenting statistics for a historical unit, which may have changed its boundaries significantly during the period covered.

Preferred Name:
ARDCHATTAN
Unit Type:
Scottish Parish
Date created:
1845
Date abolished:

Unit ID:
10016642
Authorities:
1851 Census of Great Britain, Table [1], 'Population Abstract'.

Notes:

Although the SCAN gazetteer described Ardchattan and Muckairn parish as having been created in 1911 through the abolition of the parishes of Ardchattan and Muckairn, the Census lists them as a single parish from 1871 onwards, the 1871 census including a note saying that Muckairn was previously returned separately. They are shown as a single unit in Blacks Atlas, while Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer describes Ardchattan and Muckairn as being quoad sacra parishes individually, but united as a quoad civilia parish. They are always listed in poor law data as a single parish. Given this complexity, we include no specific dates of creation or abolition, apart from the final dissolution of the Scottish parish system in 1975.
