Although the Act/Order which renamed this unit has not been specifically identified, Ayr District of County population figures for the previous Census given in the 1951 County Report (Table 1) match exactly the population figures for Ayr No. 1 District of County given in 1931 (Table 1). The listing of associated parishes in 1951 (Table 5) also matches exactly those given in 1931 (Table 13).
