This unit has been constructed for statistical reporting purposes only. It has no legal existence.
We have no evidence that Barony was ever a burgh, and have not assigned it a status, but it was one of the towns for which occupational statistics were listed by the 1861 census, and all the others were burghs, so to simplify calculations we have defined it as a 'statistics-only' burgh.
We know of no alternate names.
