Maud or New Maud, a village on the mutual border of New and Old Deer parishes, Aberdeenshire, with a junction on the Great North of Scotland railway (186165), 16 miles SSW of Fraserburgh, 13 W of Peterhead, and 31¼ N by W of Aberdeen. Of recent erection, it has a post and telegraph office under Aberdeen, a branch of the North of Scotland Bank, an hotel, a Gothic Established chapel of ease (1876; 420 sittings), the Buchan Combination Poorhouse (with accommodation for 138 inmates), and cattle-markets on the last Monday of every month.—Ord.
