Ardrossan, par., seaport, and watering-place, NW. Ayrshire, 32 miles SW. of Glasgow by rail -- par., 7341 ac., pop. 7777; town, pop. 4036; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks, 2 newspapers. It has a good harb., and carries on fishing and a large export trade in coal and iron; shipbuilding is the principal industry; steamers ply to Ayr, Glasgow, Arran, Belfast, Newry, and various foreign ports.
