Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Slane

Slane, par. and vil., N. co. Meath, on river Boyne, 2 miles NE. of Beauparc ry. sta. and 8 miles W. of Drogheda - par., 5947 ac., pop. 1124; vil., pop. 393; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; has remains of an abbey and of the hermitage of St Eire, who founded the see of Slane at the beginning of the 6th century. Slane Castle, 1 mile W. of vil., is the seat of the Marquis of Conyngham.
