Lorton, township and vil., Brigham par., Cumberland - township, 5318 ac., pop. 397; vil., on river Cocker, 4 miles SE. of Cockermouth; in vicinity are Lorton Hall and Lorton House, seats. Lorton Vale extends from Crummock Water to the border of the parish, is bounded on the W. by Low Fell and Whin Fell, and on E. by Whiteside, Whinlatter, and Wythop Fells.
