Middleton.-- market town, township, and par. with ry. sta. (Midleton), in co. and 16 miles E. of Cork, on river Middleton or Owencurra, 178 miles SW. of Dublin - par., 5712 ac., pop. 5105; township, 381 ac., pop. 3358; P.O., T.O., 3 Banks. Market-day, Saturday. The town has an extensive distillery and several flour mills. It stands on the property of Viscount Middleton, in a rich and beautiful district. The river, which falls into Cork harbour, is navigable for vessels of nearly 300 tons to Ballynacurra, 2 miles below Middleton.
