Porlock, par. and vil., Somerset - par., 6019 ac. (355 water), pop. 765; vil., 1½ mile S. of Porlock Bay and 6 miles W. of Minehead; P.O.; is an ancient place, and was a seat of the Saxon kings. It presents a picturesque appearance, and it holds three fairs yearly. The Vale of Porlock is 1 mile in width, and is bounded on the S. by slopes which culminate in Dunkery Beacon. Porlock Bay, on the Bristol Channel, is 4½ miles wide, and overhung by lofty cliffs.
