Tarbert.-- seaport vil., Kilcalmonell and Kilberry, and South Knapdale pars., and quoad sacra par., partly also in Saddell and Skipness par., Argyllshire - quoad sacra par., pop. 2017; vil., at head of East Loch Tarbert (off Loch Fyne), 13½ miles S. of Lochgilphead, pop. 1629; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; has a good harbour, carries on an extensive herring fishery, and is a place of call for steamers from Glasgow to Ardrishaig. The ruins of one of three ancient castles is in the vicinity.
