Skiddaw.-- mountain, in the centre of Cumberland, on E. side of Bassenthwaite Water, 3½ miles N. of Keswick, alt. 3054 ft.; forms an oblong mass 8 miles by 7, consisting chiefly of clay slate, and includes Saddleback, Linthwaite Fell, and the Caldbeck Fells; the central part bears the name of Skiddaw Forest; on SW. side of mountain is Skiddaw Dodd (or Dodd Fell), alt. 1612 ft.
