Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Achrannie

Achrannie, a double cataract on the river Isla, in the W of Forfarshire, on the mutual boundary of Glenisla and Lintrathen parishes, about 2 miles below the Reeky Linn. The upper cataract occurs in a stupendons chasm, scarcely more than 9 feet in width, flanked by mural precipices of great height, surmounted by a profusion of trees: and it descends a steep broken channel, in deep boiling flood, and curling wreaths of foam, with roaring noise and impetuous power. The lower cataract is of similar character, but of less force.
