AVON (The), a river of Monmouth. It rises 1½ mile E of Nantyglo; and runs about 16 miles south-south eastward, past Pout-y-pool, to the Usk at Caerleon. Most of its valley is traversed by one of the Monmouth railways; and part, by the Brecon and Monmouth canal. It is sometimes called the Avon-Llwyd; and sometimes the Torryden.
