PULHAM-ST. MARY-THE-VIRGIN, a village and a parish in Depwade district, Norfolk. The village stands near the Waveney Valley railway, 2½ miles W N W of Harleston; and has a station on the railway, and a post-office under Harleston. The parish comprises 2, 998 acres. Real property, £5, 464. Pop., 863. Houses, 196. The property is much subdivided. The manor belonged anciently to Audrey abbey at Ely; wentto the Crown, by an exchange, in the time of Elizabeth; and belongs now to G. Copeman, Esq. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value, £662.* Patron, the Crown. The church consists of nave, aisle, and chancel, with very fine porch and lofty embattled tower. There are a Baptist chapel, a parochial school, partly free, and charities £30. William of Wykeham and the poet Broome were rectors.
