NEWTON-DALE, a beautiful valley in N. R. York.shire; intermediate between Goathland vale on the Nand Pickering vale on the S, continuous with both thesevales, traversed by a headstream of the river Derwent and by the York and Whitby railway, and having nearly in its centre Levisham r. station. It is finely wooded; is flanked by cliffs; and contains a famous medicinal spring.
