Comlongan, an ancient castle in Ruthwell parish, SW Dumfriesshire, 1½ mile NW of Ruthwell village. A quadrangular edifice, measuring 60 feet along each side, and 90 feet in height, it was constructed to serve as a strong fortalice, with port-holes and battlements; its walls are so thick as to include within them small apartments. It is still in good preservation; and, having long been the seat of the Murrays of Cockpool, it now belongs to the Earl of Mansfield.
