In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Gargunnock like this:

Gargunnock, par. and vil. with ry. sta., in co. and 5½ miles W. of Stirling, 9859 ac., pop. 698; P.O., T.O.; in vicinity is Gargunnock House; 2 miles SW. are the Gargunnock Hills, alt. 1591 ft.; 1 mile NE. stood Gargunnock Peel.
