In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Strathblane like this:

Strathblane, par. and vil. with ry. sta., Stirlingshire - par., 9068 ac., pop. 1343; vil., on river Blane, 4 miles W. of Lennoxtown, and 16 miles by rail and 11 by road N. of Glasgow; P.O.; the Strathblane Hills rise to an alt. of 1624 ft.
