In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Saddell like this:
Saddell, quoad sacra par., Saddell and Skipness par., Argyllshire, on E. side of Kintyre, pop. 080; the church is at Carradale; Saddell Abbey, ruin, and Saddell House, seat, are at foot of Saddell Glen, 9 miles N. of Campbeltown.
