Brough  East Riding

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Brough like this:

BROUGH, a hamlet in Elloughton parish, E. R. Yorkshire; on Ermine-street, and on the Selby and Hull railway, adjacent to the Humber, 10½ miles W by S of Hull. It has a station on the railway, and a head post office;‡ and is sometimes called Brough-Ferry, from a ferry here on the Humber. It occupies the site of the Roman Ad Petuariam.
