In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Tyninghame like this:
Tynninghame, vil., Whitekirk and Tynninghame par., Haddingtonshire, on river Tyne, 2 miles NE. of East Linton; P.O.; 1 mile NE. is Tynninghame House, seat of the Earl of Haddington.
