In 1882-4, Frances Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland described East Haven like this:

East-Haven, a fishing village in Panbride parish, Forfarshire, with a station on the Dundee and Arbroath railway, 4½ miles SW of Arbroath. It sends large quantities of live lobsters to the London market, and of white fish to Dundee, Forfar, and other towns.
