In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Haywards Field like this:
HAYWARDS-FIELD, an extra-parochial tract in Stroud district, Gloucester; 3 miles SW of Stroud. Pop., 5. Houses, 2.
The location used here is simply that of Stonehouse village, as from 1884 onwards the extra-parochial area of Hayward's Field was merged into that parish; and because of the date of that change, Hayward's Field is not shown on the 1888 Diagram of Sanitary Districts.
