In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Orford like this:
ORFORD, an extra-parochial tract in Louth district, Lincoln; 7½ miles N E of Market-Rasen. Acres, about 1,000. Pop., 25. The tract consists of two farms; belongs to W. Angerstein, Esq.; and is sometimes regardedas a hamlet of Binbrook parish. A nunnery was founded in the time of Henry II.
