In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Noddfa like this:
NODDFA, a township in Darowen parish, Montgomery; 6 miles N E of Machynlleth. It contains the parish church, which had the privilege of sanctuary. called in the Welsh, "noddva." Real property, £2,080. Pop.in 1851, 533; in 1861, 680. Houses, 127. The increase of pop. arose from extension of mining operations.
The location is that of Darowen church, as sources including the Imperial Gazetteer are agreed that the township of Noddfa contained the parish church for Darowen.
