In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Lower Bedwas like this:
Lower Bedwas, hamlet, Bed was par., Monmouthshire, 1 mile SW. of Bedwas sta.
The location is based on the description in the Bartholomew gazetteer, although if Lower Bedwas was a full mile south west from the station it would be across the river in Glamorgan.
