In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Brynamman like this:

BRYNAMMAN, a mining locality in South Wales; on the Swansea Vale and Garnant railways, 18¼ miles NNE of Swansea. It has a r. station with telegraph, and a post office under Llanelly.
