In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Cathinog like this:
CATHINOG, a hundred in Carmarthen. It marches with Cardigan, in the vicinity of Lampeter; extends 16½ miles southward; and contains nine parishes and parts of two others. Acres, 85,064. Pop., 10,161. Houses, 2,262.
