In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Delapre Abbey like this:
DELAPRE' ABBEY, a hamlet in Hardingstone parish, Northamptonshire; adjacent to the Northampton canal and the Northampton and Peterborough railway, 1¼ mile SSE of Northampton. A Cluniac nunnery was founded here, in the time of Stephen, by Simon de Liz; and a mansion on the site of it is the seat of the Bouveries. An octagonal cross, in three stages, on eight steps, to the memory of Eleanor, queen of Edward I., is in the park.
