Place:

Drakeholes  Nottinghamshire

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Drakeholes like this:

DRAKELOW, a place near the Roman road to Littleborough, the river Idle, and the Chesterfield canal, 3¼ miles SE of Bawtry, in Notts. Roman coins and other Roman relics have been found here.

William White's History, gazetteer, and directory of Nottinghamshire, and the town and county of Nottingham (Sheffield, 1832) says that Drakeholes and Drakelow were one and the same: "DRAKEHOLES, or Drakelow, is a hamlet four miles E.S.E of Bawtry, on the Gainsbro' road" (p. 337). Additional information about this locality is available for Wiseton
