Descriptive gazetteer entries

In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Hartland Point like this:

Hartland Point, promontory, N. Devon, forming S. extremity of Barnstaple Bay, at the entrance to the Bristol Channel, alt. 350 ft.; on the Point is a lighthouse, with revolving light (Hartland Point), 120 ft. above high water, and seen 17 miles.

This is the only descriptive gazetter entry we have found, but you may be able to find further references to Hartland Point by doing a full-text search here.
