In 1837, Samuel Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland described Staholmog like this:
STAHALMOCK, or STAHOLMOY, a parish, in the barony of LOWER KELLS, county of MEATH, and province of LEINSTER, 4 miles (S. S. W.) from Nobber, on the road from Kells to Ardee; containing 756 inhabitants, and comprising 1409 ¼ statute acres of good land. The living is a rectory, in the diocese of Meath, and in the patronage of the Crown: the tithes amount to £110, and there is a glebe of 21 acres, valued at £47 per annum. ...
In the R. C. divisions it is the head of a union or district, comprising also the parishes of Kilbeg, Newtown, Robertstown and Emlagh, and containing the chapels of Stahalmock and Carolanstown.
