In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Kilfenora like this:
Kilfenora.-- par. and vil., N. co. Clare, 15 miles NW. of Ennis - par., 10,776 ac., pop. 1811; vil., pop. 307; P.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Wednesday. Kilfenora dioccse is now united with Killaloe.
