In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Quin like this:
Quin, par. and vil. with ry. sta. (Ardsollus and Quin), mid. co. Clare, 6 miles SE. of Ennis - par., 9352 ac., pop. 1364; vil., pop. 184; P.O.; has remains of an abbey.
