In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Dunlavin like this:
Dunlavin, market town and par., W. co. Wicklow, 11 miles S. of Newbridge ry. sta. and 26 miles SW. of Dublin -- par., 5851 ac., pop. 1223; town, pop. 615; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Wednesday.
