In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Drumcondra like this:
Drumcondra, Clonliffe, and Glasnevin, township, Clonturk par., co. Dublin, 918 ac., pop. 4878; contains a R.C. Missionary College. The township was formed 1878.
