NEWFIELD, a township, with a village, in Auckland, St. Andrew parish, Durham; 3 miles N of Bishop-Auckland. Acres, 199. Pop. in 1831, 8; in 1841, 345; in 1861, 1,024. Houses, 177. Coal-mining is largelycarried on. Some spots command a fine view.
