In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Framlingham like this:
Framlingham, market town and par. with ry. sta., E. Suffolk, 21 miles NE. of Ipswich by rail, 4657 ac., pop. 2518; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank, 1 newspaper.Market-day, Saturday; has remains (principally of time of Edward I.) of Framlingham Castle, adjacent to which is the Albert Memorial Middle Class College (1865).
