• Total Population 1801 to 1971: Population fell from 23,117 in 1801 to 13,055 in 1971.
• Age Structure, in 5-year bands, from 1851 to 1971: In 1851, only 6.8 per cent of the population were aged 65 and over, but by 1971 17.16 per cent were.
