nCube definition

This classification of industry is that used by the 2011 Census, and forms the basic for our standardisation of historical information on industrial structure. The modern data are a classification of workers by their employers' business and count them by their place of work. However, before 1951 they are counted by place of residence, and before 1921 workers have to be classified by their individual occupations.
