Sources:

  1. This is a full transcription of 'Parishes - Area; houses, 1841, 1851; Inhabitants, 1801, 1811, 1821, 1831, 1841, 1851' taken from Census of Great Britain, 1851. Population tables. I. Numbers of the Inhabitants, in the years 1801, 1811, 1821, 1831, 1841, and 1851. Vol. II .
  2. It should be noted that, in its published form, a table is published for each of the census divisions of England and Wales. These tables have been combined here.
  3. The printed table includes extensive notes (see below).

Notes:

  1. The statistical data were input by the Centre for Data Digitisation and Analysis at the Queen's University of Belfast.
  2. The notes given in the table are extensive and are still being entered and corrected. Initially the notes were keyed at QMW. This process is now being continued at the University of Portsmouth. Notes are currently still missing for Yorkshire, the Northern Counties and Wales.
  3. Until 2008, this version of the 1851 census table was held as 'par_1851_clean', as the original par_1851 table was retained for compatibility with the old GBHGIS.

Checking:

  1. All statistical data were checked by summing fields by county and comparing the result with county printed county summary data.
