In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Penallt like this:

PENALLT, a parcel in Llangattock parish, Brecon; on the river Usk, near Crickhowell. Real property, £3, 651. Pop., 732. Houses, 134. Llangattock church and Crickhowell workhouse are here; and Troy House, a seat of the Duke of Beaufort, is in the neighbourhood.

The location is half way between the small settlements marked as "Penallt uchaf" and "Penallt isaf" on the Ordnance Survey First Series one-inch map. Additional information about this locality is available for Llangatwg
